Landscape pattern optimization is vital to maintain the stable function of regional ecosystem. In the present study, we
interpreted remote sensing images of the Boston Lake basin by using RS and GIS, obtained land- use maps, and analyzed the
evolution characteristics of landscape pattern. Meanwhile, minimum cumulative resistance model was used to evaluate the risk of the
basin landscape, and the corresponding optimization measures were put forward. The results were as follows: (1) Grassland was still
the main land- use type, and the water area reduced 67.85%; the unused land, urban land and arable land increased greatly,
whereas the increase of forest land was not significant. (2) The overall landscape fragmentation level of the basin decreased, and the
landscape patches tended to be regular. (3) The level of landscape security in the basin was mostly the lower; the distribution of
medium security level areas were relatively scattered with high safety mainly distributed around the Boston Lake; the high security
level areas were mainly distributed in the southwest of the basin and nearby the Boston Lake.
